I have to build several animated characters for one of my freelance projects, they should be sth like the Doulingo animated characters.
Should I create them with tools like Rive? which Doulingo itself uses and it’s literally an amazing tool! Or is there any AI that can create something even simpler ?
I created something like this 3-4 years ago while Rive was called Flare, way before AI tools were available. We had to do a simple face character that had to look like it’s speaking. We built several animations and face expressions that mapped onto phonemes and animated them with Flare/Rive using blended/mixed animations. Along with the audio file we would receive time-phoneme mapping from Amazon Polly so that we could synchronize animation states with the current playback progress. We would also include states like surprise, sadness, happiness etc. so that the character would react to various situations.
It was a fun project and Flare/Rive was definitely well suited for the job.
