In Discourse there is an option for Mailing List mode. Which basically turns this forum in a Mailing List. Every post results in an email.
It is an option for users to turn on when it is enabled by the admins. I would love that. My email is an amazing source of information from all the mailings list I’m part of.

The forum is growing rapidly (which is great) but we’re also trying to keep down the costs of maintaining it in the long run. The forum isn’t supported by Google, it’s paid for by Invoice Ninja. Limiting emails is one of the main ways we can reduce the monthly expense.
Isn’t the rss feed a better option?
You can respond in mail without having to launch a browser.

If we can’t enable mail then maybe the mobile browser is a better solution to participation and RSS to notification.
