Moving to BlueSky from X (Twitter) - What's your profile?

There are a lot of people in tech communities who started using BlueSky, and so far, it looks pretty good.

I don’t know whether this platform can become another Twitter for Tech, but it’s a good idea to start building a backup or slowly replacing X with a new home.

My profile is @mhadaily.bsky.social on Bluesky

What do you think about this movement, and what’s your profile?

Same here - I think we should definitely find a less toxic environment. Here’s my Bluesky profile

I tried to stick to Twitter as much as possible but my feed has been so bad lately BlueSky seems like it might be a good idea now  so just registered!

Just a heads up to everyone new to Bluesky who isn’t aware of this you can use a domain name as your account name on Bluesky which is really cool

Here’s a tutorial on how to do it: How to set your domain as your handle - Bluesky

I’ve done it for my profile

I’m not active on bsky, but I did mostly move to Mastodon from Twitter: Bob Nystrom (@munificent@mastodon.social) - Mastodon

I also use Mastodon, but BlueSky has received much attention from Tech communities, and people are pretty active there. If that gets more attention, maybe it’s nice to have you also on BlueSky. @munificent

I’m confused and admittedly have been a bit (OK a lot) out of touch with my Flutter friends. We started fluttercommunity.social where we’re hosting our own mastodon server. People started using it.

Then BlueSky popped up.

I agree that X (Twitter) has become a toxic place - and part of why I’ve been out of touch. I’m so sick of the ads and garbage that shows up. Which is why I was thrilled when Simon and Scott setup the aforementioned fluttercommunity.social.

Please explain why use BlueSky over the site that was setup just for our community. Also explain how it is better than Twitter.

Thank you for helping me learn. :blue_heart:

Bluesky started as a spinoff of a development project at Twitter.
It has got a lot of traction recently with I think more than 12 million users now. Many users say it offers better moderation tools than mastodon and in general it’s easier to use.
No adds. And no algorithm. In general very friendly. A bit like Twitter a long time ago.

In addition to what Thomas said,

I see many friends from other tech communities have moved to BlueSky and they are pretty active. It’s like previous old Twitter now.

I also pushed Mastadon but it really didn’t take off but it seems BlueSky has taken off at least in bigger communities such JavaScript.

We will try to see where people will find themselves more responsive and comfortable.

I’ll be active on all platforms until we find a right one but for now BlueSky seems to be the one.
